Success Stories

SVAS has adopted out several gentle and loving pets to caring adopters who feel they are truly blessed by the opportunity to bring these pets into their families.

You too can submit your own happy ending story to Susan, svhspets@srt.com today and let people know that you appreciate and support our mission. A simple story can touch lives in ways you may never ever know!

Max

We adopted Gizmo, now named Max, on March 18, 2011. Since Day 1 he has been potty trained and loyal as ever! He loves toys, running and playing with us. He won't let us go into another room unless he says it's ok first! Even then he has to be right there with us! I'm so glad we were able to adopt him and thank the Souris Valley Shelter for working with us so well. He has truly become a member of our family!

Nizmo

We love having Nizmo in our home. The name we picked for him suits him well because he is so full of energy. Our other cat Soks missed him when he was at the vet getting neutered and his front claws declawed. They play like brother and sister. He's a purring machine, loves watching Tom and Jerry the cartoon, sitting on mommy's lap while she plays on the computer. Nizmo is a great asset to our home. Thank you.

Nala

Hi!  We adopted Nala "aka: Jewel" from the Souris Valley Animal Shelter in the Spring of 2010.  She has made leaps and strides over the last year...At first would not go near my husband, but will now cuddle with him...She would have accidents on a daily basis, but hasn't had one in months...And will snuggle with her brothers Jager the Lab and Bo the Pointer.  She has turned into the sweetest, most snuggly little thing in the world.  She definitely is a Mama's girl and will not let me out of her sight when I am at home.  I have an audience no matter what I am doing.  Thank you to the SVAS for rescuing and taking care of my Nala until we were able to adopt her!!!

~Janel

p.s. She has gained a whopping pound in the year we have had her...It doesn't seem like much but when you only weigh 7 lbs to begin with...It's a lot!

Taco

Taco joined our family on June 12th, 2010 we quickly noticed that he had a small hearing problem by his awkward sounding meow and lack of sneakiness. Taco came home to a companion (a Dachshund puppy named Rambo) who was his partner in crime. As Taco's personality started coming out we realized that we had found a perfect addition to our family, with his curiosity ranging from running water to a shiny spot of sunlight on the table, and he's easy going mellow attitude, Taco has brought us nothing but joy. We've brought two more pets into the family since bringing Taco home, a boxer-bulldog (Mega-Tron) and a kitten (Gir), he shows no fear to the large dog he occasionally has to share the bed with and has taught Gir his crazy way of meowing. Taco continues to share so much love and joy with every part of our family, we would like to thank the Souris Valley Humane Society for allowing us to adopt him. It's an amazing feeling coming home to him waiting at the door every time we go some where. ~Kathleen, Chad, Rambo, Mega-Tron, & Gir

Jenny

Hi  Its Jane John and jack Britton  with pictures of Jenny! We received a care package today from the lady who found Jenny and it was like Christmas! Toys (which didn't last a second) ha and lots of treats! So if you can share this pictures with her to show her how loved Jenny is that would be great. She is a GREAT little girl. Jack has finally come around and was even licking her eyes to help her see. They share a bone. Its so funny as one will chew for awhile and then the other one will take over ha. She has a pretty pink collar and jacket  and loves going for rides. We clean her eyes many times a day and she has the most beautiful eyes when she can finally open them. We thank all of you for taking good care of Jenny and for the nice lady who sent the care package. She is very welcomed in our home.

Casey

My husband and I adopted Casey from the SVAS when he was 4 yrs old. My mother has been in Trinity Nursing Home and Casey began his daily visits to her and the other residents along with his brother Chip whom we received from a farm home.

Casey is now eleven and still visiting.

Davida

We adopted Davida on my birthday March 13th 2010.  So far she has been the best dog EVER! We decided to keep the same name because we couldn't think of anything better and we were used to talking about "Davida" at the shelter before the adoption. When we got her home we quickly realized that she knew the commands sit, shake. stay, and come.  We also taught her how to slow dance and roll over, but what's even funnier is my husband taught her to run to the end of our yard and go potty in the same spot everytime....its pretty crazy how smart this dog is!!!! We can't imagine life without her and are so happy to have her! Thanks again to SVAS and to others remember.......the best breed of dogs is "rescued" :)

Sadie Russell

"Good Morning,

We noticed in a recent newsletter you were requesting information & pictures of adopted pets.  Attached are two pictures of Sadie.  One resting after play and another ready to go again.  She is an adorable companion for us but does need another companion to play with.  We are still seeking a Westie or another Cairn to share our home.

May God bless you in your work!"

Arnold

"I am writing to give an update on our adoption! We adopted Arnold, a doxie/terrier mix, on Sept 11, 2009. After a few days within his new home, he underwent a name change, as he wasn't quite answering to the name Arnold. My husband and son started calling him different names and when my husband said "what about Fritz" Arnold quickly responded. So ever since, he has been answering to the name Fritz! Arnold, a.k.a Fritz, quickly made our home his home! He is quite the character and I call him my little joker. He can give you a look that seems to be a smile and when his huge brown eyes have that gleam....you know he is up to something. We had to stay on top of things, as Fritz quickly earned the nickname of Houdini, because he could get out of any space within our fenced yard. Thankfully, he never went far, but we have seemed to block all escape routes! Fritz has grown attached to our golden retriever, Roscoe, and they are true pals. Fritz likes to start playful runs through our house and yard. He has truly been a wonderful addition to our loving home.
Have a wonderful holiday season, and thank you for allowing us to give Arnold a.k.a Fritz "Houdini" a home of his own this holiday season."

Cleo

"Miss Cleo, a tortoiseshell kitten with a wild yellow stripe down her nose, came to us from SVAS last fall as a companion to an abandoned kitten we found. She was very small and she is still a dainty cat, weighing in at about 7 pounds. Cleo likes nothing better than sitting on my shoulder and giving me a kitty-massages. Unfortunately she has never learned to sheath her claws, so she wears rubber toenail covers that are held on with super glue. They work great, and make the massages much more pleasant while allowing her to keep her toenails. Miss Cleo is a very Zen-like cat, very serene. She seldom purrs. She will look at herself in the mirror, sit up on her hind legs, and make karate moves in the air with her paws. She is so fun to watch and I can’t wait to get this on video. Miss Cleo is very maternal, and spends time washing the rest of the cat family. She is pictured with Peanut, a kitten I found after the first mini-blizzard in October 2008, unable to walk, wet, nearly frozen, and so starved that all of his bones were palpable. He’s doing MUCH better now! She has 4 additional members of her kitten family with similar hard-luck stories including Peanut’s real sister, a Scottie named Hammie, and a foster kitten sister that I swear is NOT going to move in, except she already has. Our family room is full of cat furniture and toys and our home is a racetrack. We enjoy them every single day. Every one is spayed/neutered (except the foster baby). Thank you for Miss Cleo!"
