Did You Know? … Interesting Facts About Aluminum Can Recycling!

Recycling one tone of aluminum saves:

  • 14,000kWh of energy
  • 39.6 barrels (1,663 gallons) of oil
  • 237.6 million BTUs of energy
  • 10 cubic yards of landfill space

Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth and currently about 51% of aluminum cans produced are recycled.  Making new aluminum cans from used cans takes 95% less energy; and 20 recycled cans can be made with the energy needed to produce one can using virgin ore.

Recycling of aluminum cans, in particular, results in both revenue expansion for our community AND a significant positive environmental impact.

We need more volunteers to help us with this very worthwhile program to include spearheading a neighborhood drive and contacting local businesses for their ongoing support and contributions. If you are interested in helping, please contact Susan at the shelter, 852-6133, or email her at svhspets@srt.com. As always, our 4-legged friends appreciate all your wonderful support (as do we)!

Uncertain whether your contribution makes a difference? Every penny helps!  If you don't think those papers, cans, and cartridges make a difference click here to view the numbers.
